Fall 2022 Disbursements Begin August 17, 2022
FINAL TUITION PAYMENT DEADLINE FOR ALL FINANCIAL AID STUDENTS IS DEFERRED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 19. If you have an outstanding balance after this date, a one-time $20 late fee would be applied to your account.
The first disbursement date for Fall 2022 financial aid is scheduled on August 17, 2022. Subsequent disbursements occur once a week each Wednesday throughout the semester. You will only receive a refund if there is remaining aid after all tuition, fees, and on-campus housing have been paid.
Ensure that your financial aid is ready for disbursement by checking the following:
- You are enrolled in at least half-time (6 units undergrad, 4 units graduate)
Students with grant awards must be enrolled full-time (12 units undergrad, 7 units graduate) to receive the entire amount in "accepted" status - There are no financial aid related items on your To Do List
- There are no other holds preventing disbursement (example: FA SAP Hold, etc.)
Tuition Deferment for Financial Aid Recipients
If you will be receiving financial aid, you do not need to worry about the first tuition payment deadline of 8/10. You will not be dropped from your classes and should attend all classes, even if you have an amount listed as “Due Now” in your Student Center.
Please note, financial aid recipients are responsible for dropping all classes from their schedule if they do not plan to attend. You will incur charges (pro-rated tuition) if this is not completed by 8/21.
Your aid will be applied to your tuition and on-campus housing charges by Wednesday 8/17. After this date, if there is any excess aid we will refund that amount back to you. If there are still charges related to tuition and fees in your Student Center after 8/17 you will need to pay that amount by 9/19 to avoid late fees if all pending aid has disbursed.
You will see “Balance Due Deferred by FA” in the Holds and Alerts box of your Student Center. This hold gives you a deferment on the tuition payment deadline until 9/19.
The fastest and easiest way to receive your refund is by signing up for Direct Deposit in your Student Center. Follow these steps to sign up, or to confirm that you already have signed up:
-
Log on to the Student Center via the SF State Gateway at gateway.sfsu.edu.
-
Under the “Finances” section, click on “Enroll In Direct Deposit”. Follow the prompts to add or confirm your banking information. See this video for more Direct Deposit info.
Direct Deposit refunds generally show up in the designated bank account within 3 to 5 days after posting to your SFSU account. If you do not have Direct Deposit set up, your refund will be mailed as a check to your address on file and generally takes 1 to 2 weeks to arrive.
