Mission
The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) strives to support students throughout the financial aid process. OSFA has the overall responsibility of administering Federal or State financial aid and Scholarships awards at San Francisco State University. We determine the eligibility, awarding, and the conditions in which these awards may be disbursed.
OSFA communicates with our students via their SF State E-mail and SF State Gateway. To keep yourself up to date - Make sure to check both regularly.

Better FAFSA, Better Future!
A new financial aid application is coming! For the 2024-2025 school year (Fall 2024, Spring 2025, & Summer 2025), the U.S. Department Of Education (DOE) will be unveiling the new and improved FAFSA! Announcements
Financial aid applications for the next academic year will be available on Monday - January 1, 2024! Depending on which application you qualify for, please do the following:
- Complete 2024-2025 financial aid application (FAFSA or CADAA)
- List SF State as your TOP school of choice (School Code: 001154)
If both steps are completed successfully, admitted students will be awarded financial aid for the 2024-2025 school year (Fall 2024, Spring 2025, & Summer 2025) here at SF State by the end of the Spring 2024 semester.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Applications must be completed between January 1, 2024 to April 2, 2024 in order to be considered for State financial aid!
If a student received leftover aid (Refund) from your Fall 2023 financial aid disbursement, then they may use those funds to pay for their Winter fees. For any other Winter session related inquiries, please contact the College of Professional & Global Education (CPaGE) directly. For students who have been awarded official awards for the 2023-2024 school year (Fall 2023 & Spring 2024) here at SF State, our FIRST disbursement date for the Fall 2023 semester was on Wednesday - August 16, 2023. If you had successfully completed a 2023-2024 financial aid application (FAFSA or CADAA) and listed SF State as your TOP school of choice (School code: 001154), then your financial aid awards for the 2023-2024 school year (Fall 2023 & Spring 2024) have been posted!
If the awards in your Student Center are listed as ESTIMATED - Meaning that they are not official and cannot be accepted, then please refer to your To Do List for any financial aid related items because your financial aid application has been selected for Verification (Further review).
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Students must have completed their application by the March 2nd priority deadline in order to be considered for State financial aid.
